2013 Tournament of Roses Parade to include six Cobb students

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Music for All recently selected six Cobb County high school musicians to be a part of the Bands of America Honor Band in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade.

According to Cobb County schools, hundreds of students across the nation applied. The parade has become a New Years Day tradition in Southern California. This year will be the 124th run. Upon travelling to California, the students from three Cobb schools will spend a week participating in rehearsals, listening to performances in Disneyland and marching in the parade.

Forty high school age dancers from the Holly Springs School Of Dance are busy putting the final touches on the choreography for the Macy?s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Joining girls from around the country, HSSOD students will perform on Thanksgiving morning with the Spirit of America Dance Team on NBC?s live coverage of the parade. While in New York, dancers will rehearse, shop, see a Broadway show, see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, take a cruise around the Statue Of Liberty, visit the Empire State Building and perform for millions of viewers on Thanksgiving morning in front of Macy?s. Look for the dancers in black and white costumes. Marilyn Chappell, Director of Holly Springs School Of Dance, is so thankful for everyone?s support of the dancers throughout their fundraising efforts. This is the school?s fourth trip to perform in the parade.

How to Get Customer Service Feedback with Ernest Hemingway ...

No matter the person, background, position, skills, or accomplishments, everyone has something to offer you to make good customer service great.

Ernest Hemingway is one of the greatest American novelists. His philosophy inspires all of us in the service industry to develop good customer service by listening to customer feedback.

When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.

Ernest Hemingway

Listen.

Hemingway?s secret is to listen. If we want to improve how to get customer service feedback, we must listen better to what our customers have to say. Hemingway?s writings are focused on real life experiences, not flowery language disconnected with the raw emotions of daily life. Hemingway?s focus was on behavior, not intelectual concepts. When we get customer service feedback, we must listen for the things that really matter to the customer, we then must act.

Do something about it.>/h3>

The basis of good customer service comes down to behavior, action. We spend far too much time focused on congratulating ourselves on what we do, but not enough time on what we need to do better. What our customers say should be the driver to our actions each day. Not every little decision needs to be dictated by a customer?s opinion, but customer feedback will give you an idea of general trends in what customers need. The more we listen and act on what we hear, the more customer feedback we will receive.

Talk to customers, get their feedback, get their ideas, get their creativity.

Solicit ideas. Inspire creativity. Not everything that is suggested will be the most effective solution. Some ideas will be terrible, but others will be genius. Let people participate in the creative process and you not only add to your development pool, but also enlist them in the cause to carry out the plan that will take shape.

Everyone can tell you one thing that you?re getting right. Everyone can tell you one thing that you?re can do better. Ask, then listen. You?ll find customer service gems in the feedback.

What to Drink: Wine and Beer for Thanksgiving

We?ll start and finish with beers?and save the wines for the meal.

For an aperitif, I picked Crabbie?s Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer. This is the first drink in a long time to make me raise my eyebrows. The ABV is a low 4.8%, so you don?t get soused?and it?ll go with light ?starters? before your big meal. The drink is sweet, with a lushest ginger ?punch?. It?s recommended you pour it over ice with a slice of lemon or lime. Think complimentary foods, Crabbie?s is so flavorful, you don?t want a food that?ll try and fight it. Fruits like apricots and pineapple, citrus based salads, salty nuts (cashews for their sweetness) and cheeses. You could go for broke and do a full on charcuterie if you like. Crabbie?s comes in 4 packs for $10.99?and pints for $4.59. Serve in a pint glass.

Of course the no-brainer selection for wine is the beaujolais nouveau. We have Domaine Descroix, Domaine Manoir Du Carra, both $11.59,?and the King of the Beaujolais region, Georges Duboeuf all $11.59. This red wine is light, easy to drink, bananas and bubble gum you can serve is slightly chilled and it?s GREAT with turkey.

For a white, I?ve chosen Frisk Prickly Riesling from Australia. If you don?t like sweet wines, don?t be scared! You can taste the cool climate in this wine. It has the acid to back it up, making it a superb food wine, perfect for turkey or ham. It?s lemony and refreshing with a slight ?tickle? or effervescence from the yeast. It?s $12.99 a bottle.

For a red, I suggest Brandborg Pinot Noir, ?Love Puppets? from the Umpqua Valley, Oregon. This is a hearty pinot noir with wild berry flavors, spice, light oak and vanilla. It?s a cool climate pinot wine also, so it?s got the great acid needed for food. It?ll hold up against Lamb and other red meats. It?s priced at $20.59

To finish up, I?d suggest Nommo Dubbel from Boulevard in Kansas City. It?s part of the brewery?s Smokestack series. Nommo is a West African ancestral spirit and the word means ?to make one drink?. This beer is pretty hefty and malty, made with molasses, coriander, cinnamon?and star anise. You?ll pick up banana?and clove from the yeast. This will go perfect with ginger bread?and dense chocolate desserts (a torte maybe). Since you?ll? be pretty full by this time the 8.1% ABV won?t hurt you. It?s available in 750?s, perfect for sharing, and it?s $10.59. I?d suggest serving in a tulip glass with maybe a cigar!

All wines and beers can be found at Murphy Beverage Company in Old Town Winchester.

Songwriter Diane Warren's music optioned for stage

NEW YORK (AP) ? The big hooks and soaring melodies of Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren are heading to Broadway.

Tony Award-winning producer Dede Harris tells The Associated Press on Thursday that she has optioned Warren's entire 2,000-song music catalog with an eye to getting her hits into a musical. The creative team and a timeline for the project will be announced at a later date.

A formal announcement was to be made later Thursday.

"We're starting with a blank canvas and the beauty of the development of this process is that we can let our imaginations run wild," Harris said Thursday. "We have so many different songs that we can pull from and create a story from so many of her songs that it's just too early to say."

Warren's writing credits include Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me," Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart," LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live" and "I Was Here" for Beyonce.

She's scored multiple Academy Award nominations and has won a Grammy and a Golden Globe award. Warren is the first songwriter in the history of Billboard to have seven hits, all by different artists, on the singles chart at the same time.

Although Harris has her favorite songs, she says she won't insist on their inclusion. "Obviously we want to put in her more popular songs, but we're not going to do it just to do it. It has to work with the story," she said.

Harris, who declined to say how much the catalog cost, has produced such hits as "Hairspray," ''Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and "A Raisin in the Sun." Her recent hits include "One Man, Two Guvnors," ''War Horse" and "Clybourne Park" and she's producing the upcoming "Hands on a Hardbody."

Warren, who also has expressed interest in writing new songs for the project, would be the latest rocker to lend their music to Broadway-bound projects, joining the likes of Sheryl Crow, Glen Ballard, Cyndi Lauper, Dave Stewart and Melissa Etheridge.
